Following previous deepwater ROV trials, a SonarBell® reflector has now seen deployment at Challenger Deep, at the southern end of the Mariana Trench; the deepest known point in the Earth’s seabed with a depth of over 10kms. Thanks to the SonarBell®’s pressure equalising design, it withstood the enormous force acting upon the device’s exterior shell.

The deployment was carried out by Caladan Oceanic, a private company dedicated to the advancement of undersea technology and supporting expeditions to increase the understanding of the oceans.
